Overheard conversation in a cafe in Port Hardy.
“Oh, I’ve got two kittens as well.”
“Hey, you shouldn’t let them out at the moment, there a lots of eagles around now.”
This ain’t home!
I’m in a crows-nest bar overlooking port hardy cove and it’s relentlessly pissing it down outside (the main reason I’m in this bland, hotel bar in the first place) and whilst reading an article about cycling, I realize that the self-pitying I’ve been indulging in recently, caused by me cycling alone, is total nonsense. I’m alive and in a beautiful part of the world and there are a lot of people who aren’t in my position. Dead or alive. But that doesn’t stop me from thinking this expedition-light is just a silly diversion from the main game. The main game, from my position, is being with the woman I love, raising kids and creating our future. Funny how life always seems better from the observer’s position. Always.
Anyway, just some thoughts from the bar. I can see how Hemmingway lost a few years that way.
Pip pip

Pete
Come on pete! Dig deep sunshine, at least you arent going to get eaten by an eagle or turn into a fruit loop insane ferry cycling man who doesn’t take his helmet off (yet). You need to get down to Duncan and chill out with the Badmans for a while!

“Mine’s an old fashioned please barman” 🙂
Well get on down to NZ asap! while cycling as fast as possible, obviously. Head down, arse up, legs a blur….(courtesy TDHC).
Amen to Binnie’s comment. In your own time, of course, in your own time, but if you could make that Quick-time I’d be grateful – I’m getting too old for much more of this sort of tension!
For a mended knee, and for all other mercies, Deo Gratias! Much love Mum
I always disagreed with the “never let your heart rule your head” thing – follow your heart. While your heart is still in this trip keep going, enjoy and appreciate. When the time is right you’ll know it’s time to follow your heart to NZ,
Take care.
From what I’ve observed, you can’t go wrong with a bit of Hemmingway. Get on peddling Pete and find some stories to tell the kids (they’ll love the bears)!
