Another glorious day. In fact I think all the locals a slightly confused by all the bright sunshine! Not much cycling, but then it’s the adventure we’re after, isn’t it?
The photos say it better than me, so in order we have…
1. Ben Gorelick – Mountain guide and cheese shop owner.

2. A photo of Portage Lake. Mmm, pretty!
3. Then Whittier side if the tunnel. The other side has no jokes at all. copyright M Robershaw
4. The ferry didn’t leave until 1445 and I arrived at about 1000 so I thought a quick bit of kayaking was in order.
5. On the ferry to valdez.
6 Valdez. The gap between the two mountains just to the right is where I’m headed tomorrow. And it’s about 20 miles of 8% gradient 😦
7. Beard Cam – Day 2. May make this a weekly thing.
Also, check out the new and improved TrackMyTour section. You should see an up to date map with my locations. It’s all a bit new but I may be able to figure out how to add images to each ‘pin’. Exciting developments, I think you’ll agree!
From now on the updates may become a bit more sporadic, but I’ll write them anyway and there may just be a massive download any time I can get a wifi signal.

Billy the bike and Ted the tent, genius! I can hear the printing press right now churning out your cash.
The scenery looks stunning, really does, breath taking. Good colour in your cheeks too, will have even more after that hill …..
Still jealous and still full of admiration!
Got your blog site permanently open in the background on the ol’ iPhone so keep em coming, makes great reading.
Ps drinking urine isn’t all that bad, just make sure it’s your own or at the least human!
Looks great fun. Catching the sun a bit there mate, maybe some cricketers sunblock in order.
Glad to see your IT issues going better now, is the battery charging gizmo working as expected?
cheers
JP
The gizmo works great, but it doesn’t seem to have enough grunt to charge the iPad. Everything else works with it though. Too late I realized I could have bought an ordinary sim card and cut it down for the iPhone 4 because over here AT & T don’t do a pay-as-you-go sim for it. Too late now. May get one in Whitehorse. And pair of scissors! Here’s one for you John; I bought a GPS tracker gizmo called SPOT Connect which works with the iPhone (http://www.findmespot.com/en/index.php?cid=116 ), but when I tried to download the essential app it couldn’t even find it on the app store, let alone download it. All the iPhones over here could see it and download it, but not mine. Have you heard of an issue with UK iPhones not being able to see certain apps on the app store? It’s not an issue now as I took it back to the store for a refund, but it would have been really useful.
Looks beautiful. I wish I could be there (minus the bike of course).

Woah, just a slight case of panda eyes……can’t wait to see you when you finish!
Scenery looks amazing!
Didn’t know you managed to pack a kayak into those paniers too!
Pete – you’ll need a US itunes account rather than your uk one (i had the same issue with the OneNote app). You can mix and match US and UK apps on one device quite happily (well, mine works, although i am jailbroken). You’ll need a US address – just use Andy’s if you need to.
Brilliant! I’ll get that sorted. Makes you wonder what the monkeys at the apple store in anchorage are paid for.

PS. I hope you rode laps around the ferry whilst underway – no slacking!!
Yo Pedro,
Not sure if I’m writing in ther right section here, so set me straight if I need it. Just a quick one to say really enjoying reading your missifs. particuarly the comment ‘slow and steady wins the race’ – reminded me of sloggin up some hill on the chile trek and you said the same words, to which Mike said, ‘is that what your Mom told you, fuckin loser’. Classic. Looks and sounds like you’re embarking on a really awesome adventure. Am very excited for you. Enjoy it all. Life on the isle is bon, midsummer today tomorrow, will wave at you from the top of the hill at midnight. Good night and pedal safe.
Richardo
ps – love the bike, got a kayak that colour….
